All ConceptCodify surveys have been moved into the OptimalSort platform. What next?

Who and what is Optimal Workshop?

We’re a software company based in New Zealand and building tools for user research: OptimalSort for card sorting, Treejack for tree testing, Chalkmark for first-click testing, and Reframer for qualitative research.

We’re a team of super-friendly developers, designers, researchers, communicators, and card sorting experts from countries like New Zealand, the United States, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Japan.


What prompted the move from ConceptCodify to Optimal Workshop?

When ConceptCodify announced it was shutting down and for its customers to download all survey data at the end of September, we knew we could step in to keep that data alive and kicking.

ConceptCodify was a quality product with a loyal fanbase, and we wanted that good experience to continue for its customers.


Will this move cost me anything?

Not at all. You’ll never need to pay to access your surveys and data, and you can run unlimited smaller studies using all our tools on our free forever plan. Your data is yours — we feel pretty strongly about this.

If you end up wanting to run more substantial card sorts (and tree tests and first-click tests), you can kick off a monthly subscription or purchase access for a year. Our qualitative research tool Reframer is currently in beta and free, and we encourage you to test it out.


How do I access my Optimal Workshop account and surveys?

We have safely moved any ConceptCodify surveys you may have created or completed over to your Optimal Workshop account. One of the following three scenarios will apply to you.

  1. If you didn’t have an Optimal Workshop account

    We’ve created an account for you using your ConceptCodify email. To get into your account, enter your email on our Forgotten Password page, and follow the instructions to reset your password. Once you’ve done this, you’ll find your surveys in OptimalSort.

  2. If you already had an Optimal Workshop account (with the same email)

    If your ConceptCodify email address matched your Optimal Workshop email, your surveys have been moved into your Optimal Workshop account. So all you need to do is log in as usual, and you'll find your surveys in OptimalSort.

  3. If you already had an Optimal Workshop account (with a different email)

    If you have an Optimal Workshop account with a different email from your ConceptCodify email, we’ve created an account for you using your ConceptCodify email. To get into your account, enter your email on our Forgotten Password page, and follow the instructions to reset your password. Once you’ve done this, you’ll find your surveys in OptimalSort.

    If you want us to transfer your surveys to your other Optimal Workshop account, just email support@optimalworkshop.com.


Can I change the email address associated with my account?

Yes. Once you’ve logged in, go to your name on the top right corner and then 'My Profile'. This is where you can change your name, your email, and your password.


How is the OptimalSort platform different from ConceptCodify?

ConceptCodify and OptimalSort have a couple of distinct differences that will affect some of your results.

  1. Difference: OptimalSort prevents editing of cards after launch

    In ConceptCodify, you could add and remove cards after you’d launched a survey. This meant that earlier participants may have sorted different cards than later participants. In the ConceptCodify results, the cards that you’d edited or removed during the survey were not included.

    In OptimalSort, you can’t edit or change the cards after the survey is launched. For your ConceptCodify surveys that are now in OptimalSort, any card that was sorted at any time during the survey has been included in the results.

  2. Difference: OptimalSort prevents editing of categories after launch

    In a ConceptCodify closed card sort, you could edit any categories you created after you’d launched a survey. This meant that earlier participants may have sorted cards into categories that later participants didn't.

    In OptimalSort, you can’t edit or change the categories you set after you’ve launched a survey. For your ConceptCodify surveys, any category you included in the survey at any point has been included in the results, and the survey has been set to Hybrid.

  3. Difference: OptimalSort has a 255-character limit for cards and category labels

    In ConceptCodify, you could create labels for your cards and your categories that contained more than 255 characters. In OptimalSort, you are limited to 255 characters for both, but you can add extra detail as descriptions (that pop up when participants hover over a card or category).

    For your ConceptCodify surveys, if a card had more than 255 characters, we’ve added the rest of the characters to the card’s description. Similarly, if a pre-set category had more than 255 characters, we’ve added the rest of the characters to the category’s description.

    In open card sorts this is different. If participants wrote category labels that were longer than 255 characters, we were unable to store characters beyond this (as there is nowhere for them to enter a category description). We’ve made a note of these instances, so get in touch with us if you suspect this might be the case for you, and we can tell you if so.


Can I relaunch any of my ConceptCodify surveys?

You can relaunch your ConceptCodify surveys once you’ve upgraded a survey or started a subscription. We recommend only doing this for ConceptCodify surveys that you hadn’t yet launched.

We don’t recommend relaunching a survey that some participants have already completed via ConceptCodify. This is because the data you gather via OptimalSort could be very different to the ConceptCodify data, based on the reasons we’ve outlined above.

Instead, you can easily duplicate your survey via your OptimalSort dashboard, and launch it as a new survey.
